Philanthropies Back Human-Centered AI
October 16, 2025
Ten philanthropic foundations are jointly committing $500 million over five years to foster advancement of artificial intelligence that places “human interests at the forefront of the technology’s rapid integration into daily life,” the AP reports. This aligns with the vision that Ben Shneiderman offers in Issues, calling on AI developers to design systems with users at the center of attention. “My agenda,” he writes, “is to help change the way we imagine, talk about, and design AI systems, starting with a vision of people working together, in charge of technology” that enables them “to ask better questions and make bolder decisions.”
