US Infrastructure Facing Increased Climate Risks

Nearly all the nation’s infrastructure—the physical and organizational structures and facilities that support modern life—are increasingly threatened by climate change, according to a CNBC report on the latest analysis by the American Society of Civil Engineers. In Issues, Mikhail Chester, Thaddeus Miller, and Tischa A. Muñoz-Erickson describe how policymakers, infrastructure engineers, and system managers can conceptualize, design, build, and maintain infrastructure to be more resilient. One key, they write, will be looking “beyond narrow technical design decisions to broader rethinking about the social, ecological, and technological means and arrangements that provide services to communities.”
