May 20, 2025
In what is described as a medical first, researchers repaired a tiny but critical error in the genetic code of a baby born with a rare and dangerous genetic disease, using a form of the gene-editing tool CRISPR “personalized just for him,” CBS News reports. She also notes: “At a time when people and the planet need CRISPR-derived solutions, we must ensure the technology’s long-term viability by applying it responsibly and allowing it to be fairly assessed by those in need.”
