Cell-Based Meat Heating Up

Following the debut of the first hamburger produced from animal cells grown in a laboratory, two scholars of sustainable engineering wrote in Issues that society should start discussing the social, cultural, environmental, and economic implications of this new development. It seems they’ve gotten their wish, as a recent news report examined how widely, and often heatedly, cell-based meat and other “alt-meat” products are up for discussion and possible regulation.
