New Look at Gene-Editing Guidelines

An international commission has launched a new effort to develop detailed, practical, and unambiguous guidance on what should or should not be done when it comes to editing the genes of humans in a way that future offspring would inherit, in response to gaps and uncertainties in previous reports and guidelines. Following an early broad look at human gene editing, Issues recently examined some of the areas—such as how to engage society in discussions, discourage rogue researchers, and acknowledge religious beliefs—that could benefit from further consideration.
